New research shows water fluoridation not cost effective

download-picture.jgpA new, highly quantified, and meticulously researched journal article challenges the common claim from fluoridation proponents and advocates that every $1 invested in adding fluoridation chemicals to community drinking water yields $38 in dental savings.  The research, by Ko and Thiessen in the International Journal of Occupational and Environmental Health, 2014, shows that community water fluoridation is not cost effective once infrastructure replacement costs and the expense of disfiguring dental fluorosis are taken into account.
